Shelves and storage spaces under staircase are the best tricks to use the area under neat the stairs. Locate the stands on both walls under your stair case and mark their locations with chalk or pencil, drawing a vertical line as high as your shelves will extended. Measure the heights at which you want to place your shelves and mark the neighs on the stud-lines. Mark the placement of shelves along the stringers with vertical lines and a small horizontal line for where the bottom of the shelf will sit.

These vertical lines help you align L-shaped brackets correctly on the stringers while working in a slightly awkward space. Attach brackets to both studs and stringers with 1 1/2 inch wood screws. Measure and cut plywood shelves according to the following dimensions. Shelves should be as wide as the distance between stair stringers less 1/4 inch for clearance. Each shelf should be long enough to reach from the wall behind the stair case to the riser of the step next to the bracket.
